Description: BROADLAWNS MEDICAL CENTER provides general and emergency medical services in Polk County. For Polk County residents that qualify, lower cost or free medical services are available. The in patient units provide acute care for medical, surgical, pediatric, psychiatric, obstetrical, and gynecological problems, mental health services. Outpatient clinics provide medical services that cover a broad range of problems: primary health care, amputation prevention, specialty care, pediatrics and woman's services.

PEDIATRIC CLINIC (282-2331).
DENTAL CLINIC (282-2421) provides full dental care program (no orthodontia or braces at present) primarily for aged, unemployed, or low-income adults. Generally no fee if gross income less than guidelines depending on amount and extent of work needed. If income above guidelines, charges based on ability to pay and estimated cost of dental work. Dentures can be arranged at reduced cost depending on income.
FAMILY HEALTH CENTER: Health care is available for the whole family, including physicals, immunizations, pre-natal and other general health care needs. Call 282-2334 for appointment.
CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY SERVICES serves adults who are affected by alcohol. Provides medically safe withdrawal and assessment. Requests for adult chemically dependent civil commitments are done for Polk County residents. Call 282-6610 for appointment and information.
ADOLESCENT BEHAVIORAL SERVICES provides adolescent outpatient services (282-5750).
ADULT BEHAVIORAL SERVICES Many programs to help evaluate and treat mental health problems are available through Adult Behavioral Services. Services include individual and group therapy, psychological testing and adolescent programs (282-5695).
PRIMARY CARE CENTER (282-2273) provides health care services for persons who do not have a regular physician.
PERSON TO PERSON (282-2435) helps pregnant women and their babies. The program has two goals: 1) to help chemically dependent women have healthy babies. 2) to help mother and drug exposed babies find needed services.
COMMUNITY ACCESS PROGRAM (CAP) 2424 MLK Parkway, Suite A (282-6770) provides intensive case management program for chronically mentally ill.
ADULT PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION PROGRAM is a intensive outpatient day treatment program to help clients achieve and maintain the most independent level of functioning possible in the community and to prevent psychiatric hospitalization. Average length of stay is six months (282-6926).
FOCUS serves children in grades 3 through 8 who are not able to function adequately within the school setting or at home. Cooperative effort of Broadlawns and the Des Moines Independent School District. The program is open to all children and is not limited to Des Moines Public School students (282-6881).
CRISIS TEAM is composed of trained and experienced mental health professionals who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide crisis intervention services to anyone wishing to utilize this service (282-5752 or 800-373-2806).
BROADLAWNS RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES (244-8381 or 244-3944) offers two, nine bed residential facilities for persons with mental illness. Provide 24 hour residential care.
FAMILY PLANNING offers examinations of women's reproductive systems, pregnancy testing, information and testing for sexually transmitted diseases are available (282-2340).
MAMMOGRAPHY offers free or low cost mammograms are available for eligible women (282-2309).
PODIATRY SERVICES provides a broad range of foot and ankle services are available (282-2331).
AMPUTATION PREVENTION SERVICES (282-2331).
WIC (Women, Infants and Children's) Nutrition Program is a federally funded program for women who are pregnant, postpartum or breast feeding, and children up to age five. Food assistance, nutrition education and referrals for family related services are offered (282-2501).
