I volunteered at Samaritan House Shelter many years ago and have long appreciated Stout Street's services on behalf of Denver's homeless. Recently I tried to contact Stout Street re: dental services for a migrant with an impacted tooth. I left multiple voice messages, but today was fortunate to reach a staff person directly (twice within about an hour of each of my phone inquiries).. I explained the situation and asked what was needed for the Mom to receive care. I was told she would have to register, and only after registering would she be scheduled for dental treatment. Furthermore, I was told that dental treatment would not be available on the same day as registration and that there was no way to know in advance when treatment actually might be scheduled. I learned that the Mom needed to register in person (unless someone had an "ROI" on her behalf) and the hours during which she could register. With that information, another friend rushed the Mom to Stout Street only to discover upon arrival that registrations are only accepted for up to 20 people each day. This was important information I should have been given when I called. (I cannot help but wonder IF at the time of my second phone call--after Noon--the registration quota had already been reached for the day.) I was calling from the comfort and warmth of my living room. I empathize with the migrants who are in a strange country, do not speak English, do not have benefit of motorized transportation, etc., etc., who are trying to make their way through the resource maze. Please give clear, complete and correct information upfront! In addition, please make sure the recording on your telephone lines are accurate and consistent. I listened to two different voice messages when I called and they were not totally consistent with each other. Thank you!
Very happy with all the help.
