The Tar River Mission Clinic is a faith-based outreach of local volunteer physicians, nurses, clergy and non-medical individuals focused on providing free medical care to low income, uninsured adults ages 19 to 64 with chronic disease conditions that can be managed in a primary care oriented practice setting. All volunteer physicians and physician assistants are Board Certified, generally in Internal Medicine or Family Practice.
Our Mission
We exist to promote health and wellness by providing quality health care services to low income, uninsured individuals in our community. We strongly believe every individual has a right to needed health care but also has a personal responsibility to cooperate in the improvement of their own health by following medical guidance, keeping medical appointments, ensuring requested diagnostic testing is completed, taking their medications as directed, and making diligent efforts to improve their own health habits such as improving their diet, engaging in reasonable exercise and striving for smoking cessation.

How to Become a Client
Contact the clinic at 252-962-3450 Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A screening interview will be conducted by telephone and individual documentation requirements will be explained to each prospective patient. Potentially eligible patients are required to present those documents at the clinic prior to a medical appointment being scheduled. For patients that don't qualify, we will do our best to offer other suggestions and alternatives in the community.
Since this is a sliding fee scale clinic, we have provided the Federal Poverty Guidelines below. Visit the Tar River Mission Clinic website listed above to see what the level is needed for free care.

These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free services from some clinics, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
