Campus Care Centers were started in 1995. The Brownsville Community Health Center and BISD collaborated on this project that provides comprehensive health services to the children who attend BISD schools (approximately 43,000 for school year 2008-2009). Funding for this project initially came from a Healthy Tomorrows grant and funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Other funding partners have included the United Way, The Brownsville Foundation for Health Services, and the Texas Department of Health (TDH). Currently, major funding for this project is made possible by TDH's Title V program and HRSA's Bureau of Primary Health Care through a Healthy Schools Healthy Communities Grant.
SERVICES PROVIDED: physical examinations, screenings, diagnosis and treatment of simple illness and minor injury, basic laboratory services, dispensing of medications, medical referrals, education and counseling, case management, psychological counseling and dental services.

These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get reduced or free services from some clinics, they use a sliding fee scale based on your income.When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
